President Barack H. Obama is touring the country this summer in hopes of rallying support for his health care plan, bringing along a special guest: the Antibalas horns.
“We’re pretty protective of our credibility,” said the Antibalas horns in 3 perfectly harmonized voices, thrilling if ultimately unnecessary. “We’ve made other people’s derivative bullshit albums into classics. We’ve saved live performances of people who couldn’t really play. We’ve lent our instant hipness to a variety of causes, so when the White House asked us to hit the road in support of Obama, it seemed like a perfect fit.”
When asked to respond to rumors that the Antibalas horns had some involvement in negotiating Wednesday’s return of two American reporters from North Korean captivity, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said, “It was a private trip made by a private citizen, former President Clinton. We had no role in it. I will say that I have heard that Kim Jong Il demanded the Antibalas horns be brought to him as a condition of the reporters’ release, something about making the whole thing ‘cooler’ for the Koreans, but I can’t confirm that.”
Whatever the case in Pyongyang, in America the Antibalas horns will be providing President Obama with funky intros, funky outros, anywhere from 3 to 10 “hit me!”s, and playing out would be hecklers.
